I'm here to help.
I am a registered psychotherapist, mental health case manager and navigator with over 25 years of experience supporting transitional age youth (16-24) and their families. My experience as a psychotherapist and case manager includes working closely with young people experiencing psychosis, mania, depression, anxiety, trauma, and other complex mental health issues.
I am trained in Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT), Acceptance, and Commitment Therapy (ACT), trauma informed therapies, Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), anti-oppressive practice, suicide prevention, nature-based therapies and various other wellness strategies for promoting good mental health in young people.
As a mental health navigator, I help youth and their parents to understand what is happening to them, the meaning of various diagnoses and treatments, how and where to get help in the City of Toronto and ways to promote recovery and wellness. I aim to bring a sense of hope and optimism at a time when families may feel overwhelmed and worried about their child and what the future holds.
Over my 25-year career, I have witnessed how challenging it can be for families to navigate the complex mental health system. Many families seeking support face significant barriers, feeling lost, overwhelmed, and alone in their efforts to find the right support for their youth and loved ones.
My services are designed to bridge this gap, offering guidance and support to help families access the care they need and deserve. My goal is to be your family’s trusted partner on your journey, helping you find resources and solutions that meet your unique needs.
To support you on this journey, I provide:
Psychoeducation: Providing clear and comprehensive information about diagnoses, treatment options, symptoms, and medication side effects to empower informed decision-making.
System Navigation: Assisting youth and their families in accessing appropriate and effective mental health resources to foster stability and recovery.
Counseling: Offering both individual and family counseling sessions to address challenges, strengthen relationships, and promote resilience as you work towards your family’s goals.
Wellness Planning: Collaborating with youth to create personalized wellness plans that encourage healthy habits, including exercise, nutrition, sleep, and outdoor activities.
Goal Setting: Supporting young people in setting and pursuing meaningful goals, even during times of significant difficulty, to help them move forward with confidence and hope.
What I don’t do:
I do not provide family therapy or intensive psychotherapy for parents. My role is to support both the young person and their family as they navigate their mental health journey. If it becomes clear that intensive psychotherapy or family therapy is needed for either the parents or the youth, I can provide appropriate referrals to ensure everyone receives the additional support required.
It’s important to note that I am not a crisis worker and am not available for immediate intervention during crises. Instead, my focus is on equipping families with the knowledge and resources they need to effectively manage crises, including understanding where to go, who to contact, and what steps to take during such times.
My aim is to meet your family where they are at. My approach is a hybrid model of meeting in person in the family home, meeting in the community for walk and talk sessions with young people when appropriate and virtual or telephone meetings.
